great find from Portugal, the Quinta de Sant'Ana, from just
by the royal hunting grounds of Mafra, a short distance out of Lisbon.
A small compact estate run by an Englishman, James Frost, the wines
are exceptionally well made, and come highly recommended. |

estates of the Almeida Garrett family lie in the highest part of portugal,
the serra de estrela. they are descended from a famous liteary figure
- a kind of 'portuguese samuel Pepys'. The mountain air gives great
conditions for the slow ripening of the fruit, giving, in tur, great

Monge-our special Portuguese bubbly.
It is a 'blanc de Noir' made by the champagne method, by a wine-maker
trained in Champagne. It has a fine mousse and an elegant style. Highly
recommended. 'Monge' means monk and is a cheeky reference to the French
monk Dom Perignon, the father of all champagnes. £21.50
